Rudi Cohrssen

Rudi has practiced primarily in the areas of Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Resources Law, Employment Law and Extradition Law. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has advised and acted for companies in the energy and resources sector. He has acted for clients in matters before the Federal Court, the Federal Magistrates Court, the Supreme Court, the County Court, Fair Work Australia, VCAT and the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.

In 2014, Rudi was an advisor to Rio Tinto Energy on the divestment of its coal business in Mozambique. His role included the development of the overall commercial divestment strategy, contractor strategy and external relations strategy. He advised the project team across a number of legal and regulatory areas concerning the divestment, including compliance, taxation, joint venture agreements, contractors, investment treaty provisions and general transactional matters.

Rudi was a member of the inaugural committee of the Victorian Bar’s Climate Change and Environmental Law Panel, and has an active interest in the intersection between environmental law, international law and human rights law.

Rudi graduated with the degrees BA and LLB from the University of Natal in South Africa in 1992.  He completed his LLM degree in Procedural Law at the University of South Africa in 1998.
